Teaching preschool Sunday school is a lot of fun, and it can also be extremely challenging.
Kids in this age group are curious and love to learn, but they have a lot of energy. Incorporating a Bible activity after the lesson is a great way to keep them interested during Sunday school and help them remember what they learned that day.
Musical Blessings
This Bible activity requires enough chairs for each child in the class, plus the teacher.
Tape a piece of colored paper on the back of each chair.
Play or sing a song that has to do with the day's lesson or that the children know, and walk around in the circle of chairs as long as the music is going.
When the song ends, each person sits in the chair they are standing closest to.
Once everyone is seated, take turns going around the circle and giving thanks or asking a blessing for something that has to do with the color of paper on the back of the chair.
For example, a person who landed on a yellow piece of paper might give thanks for the sun, or someone with a pink piece of paper could ask for a blessing for his/her grandmother, whose favorite color is pink.
End each round with a prayer for everything that the kids mentioned in the circle.
True/False
For this Bible activity, place a big sign that says "TRUE" on one wall and "FALSE" on the other.
Clear the middle of the floor so that there is plenty of free space.
Ask true/false questions about the Bible lesson, and instruct the children to go to the side of the room with the right answer (if there is enough room and not too many kids, this could be played as a running game).
Some preschoolers might not quite be ready for the true/false concept.
If this is the case, then modify the lesson by using a sign with a smiley face on one wall and a frowny face on the other wall.
Instead of true/false questions, use scenarios from the lesson and have the children determine whether the actions were nice or mean.
Lesson Memory
A bit more preparation is required for this activity.
Before class, make a set of cards with matching pictures that relate to the Bible lesson. Make sure each card has a match, and place them face down on the table.
Taking turns, each child will turn over two cards.
If the cards are a match, then the student has to explain what they are and how they relate to the lesson, and he/she gets to keep those cards.
If they are not a match, the cards get turned over and it is the next child's turn.
At the end of the game, the child with the most cards wins.
